SHAHEEN LOOKS TO SHORE UP SUPPORT FOR ACA CREDITS — Sen. Jeanne Shaheen will brief congressional staff today on the looming expiration of enhanced ACA tax credits. She’ll speak at an event co-hosted by Small Business Majority and the National Women’s Law Center.
GOP MOVES TO TIGHTEN CONTROL OF D.C. — The House Oversight Committee will mark up several bills to strengthen law enforcement in the District of Columbia, including a bill that would limit youth offender status to individuals 18 years of age or younger. The moves come as President Trump’s order seizing control of the city’s police force expires.
REPUBLICAN MAJORITY SHRINKS TO 218 — A discharge petition to force a vote on legislation to repeal the Affordable Care Act and replace it with a public option has 216 signatures from Democrats and four Republicans. It needs two more signatures to reach the magic number of 218 and that could come later this month, after Democrat James Walkinshaw’s expected win in the Sept. 23 special election to replace Rep. Gerry Connolly in Virginia and a Nov. 4 election to replace late Rep. Raul Grijalva in Arizona.
NEW APPOINTEES — The Consumer Technology Association hires Samuel Negatu as director of government affairs and Kamala Harris campaign alums Christyna Thompson as press secretary and Hasan Pyarali as social media manager. Thompson most recently served as a state and regional press secretary for Giffords, while Pyarali was a digital engagement associate with Khanna’s campaign.
